At our age, a fall is never “just a bruise” anymore. According to the CDC, falls are the leading cause of injury among adults 65 and older. A broken wrist or hip can mean months of recovery, losing your independence, and depending on others for the simple things you love doing yourself. For too many women, one slip on the ice is the moment life changes for good.
So you start being careful. Too careful. You skip the morning walk with your friend. You let someone else run the errands. You stay inside on the days that look “a little slippery.” Slowly, winter becomes a season you wait out instead of enjoy.
And most so-called winter boots don't make it any easier. Some are so heavy and stiff you end up shuffling. Some soak through at the first puddle of slush, leaving you with cold, damp toes. Others are so stuffy your feet sweat inside the store — and freeze the minute you step back out.
